Obituary for Harold J. Nevins

HAROLD J. NEVINS, 82, of Howell Twp., NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. He was born in White Plains, NY, and resided in Edison, NJ, prior to settling in Howell Twp., NJ 4 years ago. They broke the mold when they made Hal, and there will never be another. He was instantly endeared to everyone he met with his quick wit and incredible sense of humor. He could always find the fun in a situation and loved how it brought people together.
Harold was an avid and inspired entrepreneur, and the owner of Metro America Sales, Inc., for the past 38 years, an endeavor he shared with his wife, Pat. An adventurous spirit, he loved the art of negotiation, travel and the unique people from around the world their business provided him the opportunity to meet, especially in Canada, Poland and the the extended families of India. He was a proud graduate of Iona College, New Rochelle, NY, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Business. He was a talented musician and arranger, especially on the upright bass and piano, and performed and recorded in his youth. He never missed an opportunity to be on the dance floor, and look out, because he had moves. If a band was playing he was either cheering them on or singing with them, and if he didn't know the lyrics, not a problem, he would improvise. He enjoyed any opportunity to be by the water, especially in a boat. Hopefully, the fish were biting. He had a keen love of reading, from history to crime novels to poetry, and could never pass up the challenge of a crossword puzzle.
A loving son, husband, father and brother he was predeceased by his parents Doris and Jason Nevins, sister Nancy Nevins Delucia and brother in law Chris, and brother Jason Nevins. Harold is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Patricia Nevins, there will never be another love in the world like theirs; his daughters Laura Nevins Bailey and her husband Ames, Jennifer Greenberg, and Christine Giles and her husband Preston; his grandchildren Megan Giles and Rob, Jeremy Giles and Rachel, and Tyler Greenberg; sister in law Jane Nevins, and many loving and caring nieces and nephews, and many dear extended family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial gathering from 2-3:30pm with his funeral service to follow at 3:30pm on Saturday February 18, 2023, at the George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. The funeral service from 3:30-4pm will be lived streamed at The Hassler Funeral Home YouTube channel. Of all of his travels around the world, his favorite place to visit was Maui, Hawaii, where he and Pat celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. As he loved nature, trees and birds, these reforestation projects would be especially meaningful to him. If you have any photos that you would like to share please send them to phnevins@aol.com.
