Obituary for William Lester Baird
WILLIAM LESTER BAIRD, 79, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Twp., NJ. He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and has resided in Jackson Twp for 45 years.
William was a proud United States Veteran serving in the Navy during the Vietnam War and received the Vietnam Service Medal with Fleet Marine Insignia and Three Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device.
He was employed as a coding engineer for Lucent Technologies, Middletown, NJ for 35 years, prior to his retirement in 1999.
William was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Twp.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernst and Lucy Baird; and by his sister, Catherine Baird. William is survived by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine Baird; his daughter, Nicole Avila and her husband, Jason of Florence, NJ; his sons, Christopher Baird and his wife, Leticia Miller of Lakeland, FL, and Timothy Baird and his wife, Kimberly of Waxhaw, NC; his grandchildren, Julian, Grace, Spencer and Olivia; his brother, Denis Baird and his wife, Kathleen of Bayville, NJ; and by his sister, Nancy Giannetto and her husband, Nicholas of Brick Twp., NJ.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 4-8 PM, on Monday, January 9, 2023 at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9 AM on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Liturgy at 10 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Interment with military honors will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Arneytown, NJ 08562.
