Obituary for Dennis S. O'Dea

DENNIS STEPHEN O’DEA, 39, of Howell Twp., NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, after an aggressive battle for a year and a half with colon cancer.
He was born in Pt. Pleasant, NJ, and graduated DeVry University with a BS in Telecommunications Management.
Dennis proudly wore blue and gold for the past 16 years. He was employed as a New Jersey State Trooper, Sergeant First Class, with the New Jersey State Police. He was a proud member of the 140th State Police Class.
Dennis loved Pete and Elda’s pizza, Wendy’s spicy chicken nuggets, cheesesteaks from Pat’s Pizza, and getting ice cream at Hoffman’s. Halloween and Christmas were his favorite holidays. He enjoyed boardwalk games and family game night, gaming, golf, football, the New York Mets, Rangers, and Giants. He was an avid poker player and competed in the World Series Poker tournament in Las Vegas and was a cigar connoisseur.
He was predeceased by his mother, Barbara Ann Szpakowski. Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Danielle O’Dea and his daughter, Mackenzie; his father, James O’Dea, and his wife, Ine; his mother-in-law, Patricia Scire; his brother-in-law, John Scire and his wife, Becky; his brothers, Kevin and his wife, Krista, and Doug and his wife, Rachel; his sister-in-law, Stefanie Scire and Harry Webb; and by his sisters, Kerry and her husband, Greg McPhillips, and Kim O’Dea.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 4-9 PM on Monday, October 4, 2021, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy, celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, will follow 11 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, 840 Cranbury South River Rd., E.
