Obituary for Martha Lisa Clouatre

MARTHA LISA CLOUATRE, 85, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2021, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch, NJ. She was born in Saint Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and resided in Vermont and Canada, prior to settling in Jackson Twp., 20 years ago.
She was employed as a bookkeeper for Verizon, Princeton, NJ for 14 years, prior to her retirement.
Martha was a Canadian born American citizen. She was known to most as Gouna. She loved cooking and baking, especially birthday cakes and meatpies, she was always looking at recipes and loved planning the next family meal. She also enjoyed eating out. Martha loved having her grandchildren spend school vacations at her house and taking them bowling, making big breakfasts and letting them stay up late. She supported her children and grandchildren at every sport event and award ceremony. Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune were her favorite shows and she was very good at both of them. She also enjoyed watching women’s basketball. Her passion was a good matching shoe and purse combo, and she never turned down a good French fry. She was very funny and had a great sense of humor.
Martha is survived by her daughters, Mary Mason and her husband, Paul of Jackson Twp., Maggie Springall of Whiting, NJ, and Michelle Dufresne of Whiting; her grandchildren, Eric Dufresne, Celina Dufresne, Samantha Dauncey and her husband, Harold, Brian Springall, Stephanie Mason, and Joanna McGlynn and her husband, John; her great-grandchildren, Alaina Dufresne, Eden Dufresne, and J.J. McGlynn; her sister, Hugette Beland, Canada; and by her niece and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her memorial visitation from 6-8 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson, NJ. Her funeral liturgy will be offered at 10 AM on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Please gather at the church at 9:45 AM. CDC attendance guidelines will be followed and face masks are required for all services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Martha’s memory to Jackson Memorial Girls Basketball, c/o Jackson Memorial High School, 101 Don Connor Blvd, Jackson, NJ 08527.
