Obituary for Cleopatra Halvis (Ruska)

CLEOPATRA (Ruska) HALVIS, 92, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Shady Lane Nursing Home, Clarksboro, NJ. She was born in New York, NY, raised her children in Rahway NJ and has resided in Jackson Twp. for the past 25 years.
Cleopatra, beautiful inside and out, grew up in Manhattan (with family originating from Kastoria, Greece) and became a skilled Manhattan seamstress. She married John, the love of her life. They owned a general store and soda shop that brought delight to locals in White House Station and subsequently in Rahway and Linden NJ. After John's passing at a young age, Cleo raised her four young children with strength and determination. She became employed as a dietician aide, with early morning shifts, for Rahway Hospital, Rahway, NJ for 25 years.
Cleo lived a simple and content life in retirement, surrounded by those she loved. Cleo loved routine, family, and little joys such as reading books, playing Rummikub, sitting on her deck, enjoying crumb cake and coffee, watching Law & Order reruns, and soaking in precious moments with loved ones and her dog, Rocky. She was blessed to enjoy years full of laughter and special moments shared with her family and friends. She was greatly loved.
Cleopatra was predeceased by her husband, John Halvis; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Sam Kideris, Anna and Gus Kigmas, Millie and Cyrus Vasil, and Georgia and Peter Christidis. She is survived by her sons, Nicholas Halvis and his wife, Marilyn; Peter Halvis and his fiance Maria, her daughters, Andrea Halvis, and Stephanie Faser and her husband, Donald; her grandchildren, Lauren Kell and her husband, Josh; Kristen Latorre and her husband, Greg; Tyler Halvis, and John Halvis; her great grandchildren, Zeph, Zara, Jesse, and Lucie-Cleopatra, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Our Mother will be greatly missed. We will always love you.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation from 3-7 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson, NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2020, at the funeral home.
