Obituary for Edward John Smith

EDWARD JOHN SMITH, 75, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on October 18, 2020, at Bartley Healthcare, Jackson Twp., NJ. He was born in Jersey City, NJ, and resided in Carteret, NJ, prior to settling in Jackson Twp., 38 years ago.
Edward proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and was honorable discharged as a Mineman Second Class.
He was employed in the maintenance department at Bartley Healthcare, Jackson Twp. for 13 years prior to his retirement in January, 2018. Prior to that, he was employed by Steel City from 1971-1982, Shore Electric from 1982-1995, and Cooper Electric from 1995-2005.
Edward was a member of American Legion Post 314, Lehighton, PA, and the Mineman Association.
He was predeceased by his parents, Warren and Genevieve Smith; and by his son, Douglas Smith in 2017. Edward is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann Smith; his sons, Edward Smith and his wife, Bianca of Williamstown, NJ, and Robert Smith of Palmyra, VA; his daughter, Jillian Hasner and her husband, Joshua of Jackson Twp.; his 5 grandchildren; and by his sister, Frances Stavitski of Holmdel, NJ.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his memorial visitation from 1-4 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Inurnment will follow, at a later date, in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Arneytown, NJ 08652. CDC attendance guidelines will be followed and face masks are required for all services.
