Obituary for Mary Ellen DiLodovico (McGill)

MARY ELLEN Di LODOVICO, 61, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2019. She was born in Staten Island, NY, and resided there until settling in Jackson Twp., 33 years ago.
It took her 61 years to get there, but Mare finally made it to the ultimate party. Fashionably late, as always - the party never really started until Mare arrived. Upon entrance through the gates made of luminous pearls and Swarovski crystals, Mare was given an Absolut Vodka Martini made from Tone’s special recipe, which she then immediately spilled. A backup was provided without haste. Her mother, Teresa, was there with an ice cream sundae. Her father, John, arrived with a steaming pot of pea soup and an excited ear to listen to stories about his grandchildren, Amanda and Anthonie. Her brother, Terrence, had saved her a seat at the bar and a joke to whisper in her ear.
The journey to the ultimate party was filled with laughter, joy, and occasional tears. It all started with a magical childhood growing up on Staten Island, NY with her two sisters, Denise and Maureen, and three brothers, Davey, John, and Terrence. Summers were filled with the scent of salt water, sun-kissed skin, and the peculiar orange sand scattered on New York City’s beaches.
She met her devoted husband, Tony, at a party, of course. Together, they had 39 years of celebrations with the best food, entertainment, and open bars stocked with Absolut. The party continued with the addition of their children, Amanda and Anthonie. With Tony following her every direction, Mare worked tirelessly to give Amanda and Anthonie the best that life had to offer. It was Mare’s love, guidance, and sacrifice that enabled Tony to start his own business, of which she was the Vice President; helped Amanda earn her PhD and become a professor at the University of Pennsylvania; and provided Anthonie with the skills he needed to start a college career in Philly. More than anything, she loved being a crucial part of the ‘quartet of love’ (Mare, Tone, Amanda and Anthonie) and she always will be.
The three of us will keep the party going on Earth. We can’t wait to join you at the ultimate party. We will just be a little late.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation from 1-4:30 PM with her Funeral Service at 4:30 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. A private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary Ellen’s memory to the Lupus Foundation of America, New Jersey Chapter, 65 E. Northfield Rd., Unit D, 1L, Livingston, NJ 07039, www.lupus.org and would be greatly appreciated.
