Obituary for John Michael O'Connell
JOHN MICHAEL O’CONNELL, 91, of Farmingdale, NJ, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019, at CareOne of Jackson, Jackson Twp., NJ. He was born in Mount Vernon, NY, and resided in Elkridge, MD, prior to settling in Farmingdale, 20 years ago.
John was a United States Veteran serving in the Navy and Air Force.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University.
John was employed as an electrical engineer working as a private consultant for NSA and SAIC, retiring in 1994.
He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Twp., where he was a former member of the choir.
John was predeceased by his parents, Daniel and Antonoinette O’Connell. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Maureen O’Connell; his son, Jeffrey O’Connell and his wife Suzanne; his daughters, Joan Kirkpatrick and her husband, Joseph, Stephanie Brannigan, and Marie Diehl and her husband, Allen; his 5 grandchildren; his 3 great grandchildren; and by his brother, Jim O’Connell and his wife, Linda.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 4-8 PM, on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8:30 AM, on Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the funeral home, followed by his funeral liturgy at 9:30 AM, at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Arneytown, NJ 08562. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John’s memory to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation, P.O.
