Obituary for Herbert William Dolan

HERBERT WILLIAM DOLAN, 89, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick Twp., NJ. He was born in Woodside, Queens, NY and has resided in Jackson Twp. since 1963.
He graduated from Bishop Loughlin Christian Brothers High School, Brooklyn, NY and Brooklyn College.
He was a United States Veteran, proudly serving his country with the Marines during the Korean War.
Herbert was employed as an independent insurance broker for Brouwer, Hansen and Izdebski Insurance Associates in Toms River Twp. for 38 years, retiring in July 2018. Prior to that, he was a member of the 23rd detective squad for 13 years for the New York City Police Department.
Herbert served as the first President of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Ocean County, the original Jackson Democrat Club, the Ocean County Democrat Committee, the Woodlake, Eagle Ridge and Deerwood Golf Clubs, and the Knights of Columbus where he was a 3rd Degree Knight. He was also a NJ State Senior Golf Champion and taught golf for 10 years at the Jackson Adult High School. During his playing days, Herbert was very proud of achieving 6 “holes- in-one”.
Herbert is survived by his wife, Catherine Mary ‘Kay” Dolan; his nephew, Drew Patrick Brosnan of Dawsonville, GA; and by his nieces, Leslie Brosnan Whiddon of Blythewood, SC, and Jamie Brosnan Ford of Suwanee, GA, Lillian Dickey of NY, MaryBeth Kennedy of NY and Jeanie Prosicello of AZ.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 1-5 PM on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9:15 AM on Monday, February 18, 2019, at the funeral home. His funeral liturgy will follow at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Veronica, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell Twp., NJ. A private cremation will follow.
