Obituary for Richard H. Jamison, Sr.

RICHARD H. JAMISON, SR., 83, of the Cassville section of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018, at home. He was born in Cassville section of Jackson Twp. and lived here all his life.
He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1954 and ran track, where he was undefeated in the half mile (880 yds.) during his senior year, winning the Shore Conference.
Rich served in the United States Army from January 3, 1955 to December 9, 1957 and received the Good Conduct Medal. Part of his service time was spent in Germany.
After returning to Jackson Twp., he entered into a four year electronics apprenticeship program at Lakehurst Naval Air Station. When the Dirigible Program was terminated, he transferred to Naval Air Station, Norfolk, VA, where he completed his apprenticeship program. After completing the program, he was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency in Atlantic City, NJ. He worked there as an Electronic Technician. In 1967 he transferred to the United States Army Electronics Command in Fort Monmouth, NJ.
During his tenure at Fort Monmouth he completed 2 six month tours in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. He served with the Army Material Command quick reaction teams. In 1972 he became a Contract Specialist procuring electronics equipment for all branches of service. He retired in 1991; however, he returned to government service due to the beginning of the Gulf War, and permanently retired in 1997.
Rich had been very active with the Cassville Volunteer Fire Company in Jackson Twp. In May of 2001, he celebrated 50 years of service as a member of the Company and was a life member. He was a Deputy District Fire Warden for the NJ Forest Fire Service since 1951. For 31 years, Rich had served on the Jackson Twp. Board of Fire Commissioners Fire District #2, where he was a former President. In addition, he was a Deputy District Fire Warden for the NJ Forest Fire Service since 1951. Richard was a member of the AMVETS Post #2, and the Cassville 7-Buck Club, where he served as a Past President.
For all his volunteerism and his life-time of service to the Jackson community, Richard was inducted into the Jackson Alumni Hall of Fame on October 6, 2002.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Viola Jamison; his wife, Rose Jamison in 2007; and by his sister, Florence. Richard is survived by his sons, Richard H. Jamison, Jr. and his wife, Michelle of Forked River, NJ, Wallace W. Jamison, Sr. and his wife, Ginnie of Jackson Twp., and John Jamison of Jackson Twp., NJ; his daughters, Mary Jamison of Jackson Twp., NJ, Heather Jamison and Matt Borris of Jackson Twp., and Helen Jamison of Jackson Twp.; his grandchildren, Renee, Patrick, Kelly, Matt, Wallace Jr, Amanda-Rose and Joshua Jamison, Devon Hinderlider, Rose Wolff, Robert and Richard Schlereth, Rocco Nicosia, Kalie Borris, Brianna and Colin Jamison; his 6 great grandchildren; his 2 great-great grandchildren; his brother, Stephen “Wally” Jamison and his wife, Marge of Jackson Twp., NJ; his sisters-in-law, Irene Tocci and her husband, Vincent, and Stephanie Pyzow; and by his numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 PM, with a Firemen’s Service at 8 PM, on Friday, October 26, 2018, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home. His funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, East Pleasant Grove Rd., Jackson Twp.
