Obituary for Bertha "Bert" Harvey (Pettersen)

BERTHA ANDREA HARVEY, 94, formally of Crane Lakes, FL, passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at Sunrise Senior Living, Jackson Twp., NJ. Bertha's friends knew her as Bert. She was born in Tottenville, Staten Island, and lived on the same road for 81 years. Prior to finishing high school, she married the love of her life, Royal, in Tampa, FL, where they spent 50 wonderful years together.
Bert worked and retired from Mount Loretto, which was an orphanage for boys and girls. She had a heart of gold, had many wonderful friends, and loved every one of them dearly. Her hobbies included taking care of her pets, bowling, playing cards, gardening and occasionally visiting a casino.
Bert was predeceased by her husband, Royal; and her children; Bette Verticchio and her husband Bob, Edward Harvey and Roy Harvey. She is survived by her grandchildren, Nancy Verticchio of Perkasie, PA, Bob Verticchio and his wife, Kerrie of Tottenville, Staten Island, Tommy Verticchio and his wife, Eileen of Matawan, NJ, Andrea Kas and her husband, Bryant of Clayton, NC, Edward Harvey and his wife, Jill of Fuquay Varina, NC, John Harvey of NSB, FL, and her daughter in law, Gail Harvey of Port Orange; and by her great grandchildren , Gregory, Nicholas, Rachel, Zachary, Ben, Dominick, Daniel, Emma, Kate, Lola, Eli and Robert.
Special thanks to her caregivers at Sunrise of Jackson and Compassionate Care Hospice, for keeping her comfortable her last few months.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Memorial Service at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 16, 2018, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 7033 Amboy Road, Staten Island, N.Y. 10307. The GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, Jackson Twp., NJ, is in charge of her arrangements.
