MARGARET “PEGGY” WINANT TRUCH, 93, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Orchards at Bartley, Jackson Twp. Born on Staten Island to Mary and Eugene O’Connor, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Eugene O’Connor, William O’Connor, John O’Connor, Charles O’Connor, and Mary Howarth.
Peggy was employed by the New York Telephone Company as an operator; her last assignment was during World War II as an operator at Holloran General Hospital, Staten Island, NY, where the operators brought portable phones to the soldiers who were bed ridden.
In 1977, she moved to Howell, NJ, where she became the recording secretary to the Howell Republican club, and also became active with the Howell Senior Citizens, and The Church of St. Veronica. She was employed at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold, NJ, as a telephone Operator for many years. After settling in Jackson Twp., she became active in the Jackson Senior Citizens, Seniors Who Care, the Twilighters, and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Jackson VFW post #4703.
Peggy’s first husband, the father of her 2 children, Carol Priccaciante and Robert Winant, passed away in 1985. She remarried 2 years later to Justin (Tex) Truch who passed away in April 2013, at the age of 96. They had been married for 25 years.
She is survived by her Son, Robert Winant and his Wife, Maria of Sea Girt, NJ; her 4 Grandchildren; her 9 Great grandchildren; and by her Step-son, Charles Winant of Horseheads, NY. Peggy was predeceased by her Daughter, Carole Priccicante in January 2018.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Committal Service at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 23, 2018, in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Rd., Arneytown, NJ 08562. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of the GEORGE S.
