Robert Allen "Bob"  Smith
ROBERT ALLEN “BOB” SMITH, 68, of Manchester Twp., NJ passed away suddenly on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Community Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newark, NJ on May 18, 1949 and was the oldest of nine, which would set the tone for the rest of his life, as Bob happily became the caregiver to many people over the course of his life.
He was a friend to the friendless who would offer his help and time to anyone who needed it; often, people who others had given up on.
He lived most of his life in Monmouth County, NJ before settling in Manchester Twp. five years ago.
Bob was well known for installing fences and owning fence companies in the Central Jersey region, most notably Freehold Fence and most recently S&S Fence Company in Sayreville, NJ. He spent most of his working career installing fences, but was also a mechanic in his youth.
Bob enjoyed cooking for his family, fishing, boating, flea marketing and living life to the fullest.
He is predeceased by his parents, Robert and Estelle Smith and by his brothers, Richard, David, James and William Smith. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Diane; their two children, Dawn Christensen and Robert T. Smith and his wife, Janie; son-in-law, Dennis Korzelius; three grandchildren, Jacob, Hailey and Wyatt Ruggiero; two sisters, Cindy Glindmeyer and Gail Brickman and her husband, William; two brothers, Lawrence Smith and his wife, Dawn and Jeffery Smith; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many wonderful friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 2-5 PM follow with is funeral service at 5:00 PM at The GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ. A private cremation will follow.
