Obituary for Shirley Jean McNair

SHIRLEY JEAN McNAIR, was born on September 4, 1937 in Carthage, NC. She was the sixth child of eight born to Lessie (nee Richardson) and Tracey McNair, Sr. At a young age she moved with her family to New York where she called home for over 40 years. During her lifetime she welcomed 2 children, Jean Delaphine Davies and Daniel Thompson. She worked for 30 years at IBM in East Fishkill, NY, where she eventually retired in 1992. Shirley’s talents were many. Notably she was an accomplished singer and piano player, and spent many years performing at churches and events in the New York area. As a result of her generous spirit she was adored by many.
Her life will forever be cherished by her son, Daniel Thompson of Philadelphia, PA; her brothers, Robert Lee McNair, Martin Luther McNair, and Leonard McNair all of NY; her granddaughter, Lotia Monroe of Clinton, NC; her granddaughter, Shirley Davies of Kingston, NY; her granddaughter, Lessie Davies of New York City; her granddaughter, Althea Smith of Brooklyn, NY; her grandsons, Harold Davies and Julian Thompson of Albany, NY; her granddaughter, Tawanda Thompson and grandson, Daniel Thompson, Jr., of Newburgh, NY; her granddaughter, Mylene Thompson of Stafford, VA; her great granddaughter, Delaphine Pittman of Jackson, NJ; her 18 other great grandchildren; her 2 great-great grandchildren; and by her many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Delaphine Davies; her parents, Lessie and Tracey McNair, Sr.; her Sister, Amy Pruitt; her Sister, Anna Mae Blue; her Brother, Tracey McNair; her Brother, William McNair; and her grandson, Elquanto Monroe.
She will be remembered as a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who cared for everyone and gave unselfishly to all those who knew her.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation from 11-1 PM followed by her Funeral Service at 1 PM on Friday, September 22, 2017, at the GEOREGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. Interment will follow in Ocean County Memorial Park, 1722 Silverton Rd., Toms River, NJ 08753.
