ROBERT A. SCHOENIG, SR., 76, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born in Hillside, NJ, growing up in Elizabeth, NJ, and spent the last 15 years in Jackson Twp., NJ.
Robert was employed as a Firefighter for the City of Elizabeth Fire Department, Elizabeth, NJ, retiring in 1989 after 26 years of service.
He was predeceased by his Parents, William Sr., and Teresa Schoenig; his Brother, Joseph Schoenig; and his Sister, Anna Cottingham. Robert is survived by his Sons, Robert A. Schoenig, Jr., and his Wife, Michele of Jackson, Twp., NJ, and Glen Schoenig and his Wife, Joann of Monroe Twp., NJ; his Daughter, Dawn Hurle and her Husband, Eugene of Jackson, Twp., NJ; his Wife, Judy Schoenig of Jupiter, FL; his Brothers, William Schoenig of Whiting, NJ, Frank Schoenig of Lakewood, NJ, and Victor Schoenig and his Wife, Emily of Metuchen, NJ. Also survived by his former Wife and Friend, Virginia Schoenig; and by his 7 Grandchildren, Austin, Taylor, Carlee, Kylie, Joseph, Paige, and Nicholas.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Memorial Gathering from 6-9 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. His Funeral Liturgy will be offered at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527.
