Obituary for Alma Ophelia Ecks (Blatchley)
ALMA OPHELIA BLATCHLEY ECKS, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at Bartley Manor in Jackson Twp., NJ, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was an Administrative Assistant for Freehold Dodge, and the Freehold Borough Housing Authority, retiring in 1987.
Alma graduated from Freehold High School. She married “Bud” in 1944 and spent a lifetime of love and memories with him. Until recently they always were seen walking hand and hand. They lived in Freehold until moving to Silverwoods in Manchester Twp., NJ, several years ago.
She was predeceased by her Parents, Charles Wilmer and Barrea Blatchley of Freehold Twp., NJ. Alma is survived by her loving Husband of 73 years, Charles Franklin Ecks (“Bud”); her Sons, Richard Ecks and his Wife, Judy of Toms River, NJ, and Philip Ecks and his Wife, Darlene of Jackson, NJ; her Sister, Edna Kohn of MO; her Cousin, Robert Blatchley of Freehold Twp., NJ; her 4 Grandchildren, Christine Ecks of GA, Marcie (Ecks) Such and her Husband, Jay of Jackson Twp., NJ, James Ecks and his Wife, Susan of Howell, NJ, and Dan Ecks and his Wife, Angela of Jackson Twp., NJ; her 8 Great grandchildren, Emily Ecks, Gregory and Sydney Ecks, Abigail and Justin Ecks, Zachary and Sophia Castillo, and Brody Such; her Brother-in-law, C. George Ecks and his Wife, Lynn of Jackson Twp., NJ; her ex-Daughter-in-law, Kathy Ecks of GA; her Life-long friend, Jane McDonald of Englishtown, NJ; and by her Beloved cat, Pawz.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Memorial Gathering from 10–11 AM with her Memorial Service at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd. Jackson Twp., NJ. Cremation was Private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Alma’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601 www.alz.org or to the Ocean County Animal Shelter, 615 Freemont Ave., Jackson, NJ 08527 (This is where she rescued her faithful cat, Pawz) and would be greatly appreciated.
