Obituary for Joel R. Granatelli

Joel R. Granatelli
Joel R. “Popi Joel” Granatelli, 79, of Southington, CT, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017. He was born on June 8, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY.
Son of the late Mary and Joseph Granatelli, and predeceased by his sister, Rose DeFrancesco and by his brothers, Tom and Rudy. He was the husband of the late Loretta (Greco) Granatelli. Fittingly, he left us on Valentine’s Day to join his wife and love of his life.
He graduated with a BBA degree in Management with a minor in Insurance and was a Certified Health Consultant. He started his career with Blue Cross Blue Shield at the age of 20 and retired as VP of Marketing. He also worked as Director of Marketing for Connecticut Community Care and served as a board member of Interfaith Voluntary Caregivers. He was a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years and some of his fondest memories were of those camping trips. Joel was a member of the St Bridget’s Contemporary Ensemble, Southington Community Emergency Response Team, Spring Lake Village Board and bocce team, ROMEO Club, St. Michael’s Society, Blue Horizons and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing poker and traveling. He had a witty sense of humor and was a great storyteller. His entire life was based on God, Family and Community.
He is survived by his children, Maria Ferreras (Paul) of St. Thomas, USVI, Barbara Keshecki (Robert) of Jackson, NJ, John Granatelli (Brunella) of Cheshire, CT, and Anthony Granatelli (Lucinda) of Toms River, NJ; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who he lovingly referred to as his “froggies.” They were his greatest joy and always said they were his greatest legacy. He was blessed with many life-long friends and “brothers from different mothers” as they often joked.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 18, 2017, at St. Bridget’s Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410. Donations can be made to: Loretta & Joel Granatelli Memorial Fund, c/o CCCI, 43 Enterprise Drive, Bristol, CT 06010 and would be greatly appreciated.
