VERONICA “RONNIE” C. GREEN, (Ma Green), nee (Johnson), age 81, of Jackson, New Jersey, formerly of South Plainfield, Little Egg Harbor and Jersey City died Friday, February 3, 2017, at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, New Jersey. Veronica was born August 16, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ. She is the daughter of the late Louis and Elizabeth (Watson) Johnson. Veronica is also preceded in death by her brother, Harry “Happy” B. Johnson, and 1 grandson, Nicholas.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, James M. Green Sr.; 5 daughters, Veronica Ann Green of South Plainfield, NJ, Patricia W. Barnosky and Jeff of Jackson, NJ, Diane M. Redden and her husband, John of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Deborah Belford and her husband, Thomas of Knoxville, TN, Caroline T. Carrelli and her husband, John of Effort, PA; 3 sons, James M. Green, Jr. and his wife, Veronica of Dunellen, NJ, Thomas L. Green of Jackson, NJ, Steven Green and his wife, Tami of Sweetwater, TN; 27 grandchildren, Matthew Lowich, Sarah Lowich-Aloui, Gregory Lowich, Timothy Lowich, Charles Hartobey, Daniel Hartobey, Tiffany Redden, John Redden, III, Joshua Redden, Travis Redden, Keith Belford, Christopher Belford, Shawn Belford , Amanda Boehner, Caroline Boehner, Jesse Hawk, Adriana Echeverry, Edward Echeverry, Alexander Green, James Green, III, Kelly Green, Kyle Green, Samantha Green, Stephanie Green, Corey Green, Amber Green, and Austin Green; 30 great grandchildren, Nour, Youssef, Sofia, Andrew, Robert, Raymond, James, Maya, Kaii, Ryley, Sophia, Dakota, Lucas, Jasmine, Julianna, Hayden, Taylor, Sophia, Richard, Blaze, Zoey, Travis, Jesse, Mia, Cody, Dylan, Gage, Jaylin, Jordan and Hazzem.
Veronica was the first female mail carrier in 1969 for the United States Postal Service in South Plainfield, New Jersey. Her children ranged in ages 2 to 14 years and were very impressed that she was the first female to break the gender barrier in town. She spent many years leading her daughters and their friends in the girl scout program. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1971 and the APWU. She loved to take her grandchildren camping, listen to Elvis Presley, watch old movies and the WWE, play Bingo, attend seafood fests and make crochet blankets for her family. Many people knew her as “Ma Green” because she was quick to adopt anyone who needed a hug.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her visitation from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, followed by her Funeral Service at 9:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Arneytown, NJ. Please honor us with your presence instead of flowers.
