JEROME M. BELFORD, 79, of Jackson Twp., NJ, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, NY. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, and resided in Tobyhanna, PA, before settling in Jackson Twp., NJ, 9 years ago
Jerome was a Firefighter with the New York City Fire Department, Brooklyn, NY, retiring in 1992 after 32 years of service.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a Master Sergeant, retiring with 30 years of service.
Jerome was a member of the Long Island Association of Firefighters and the American Legion.
He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Twp., NJ.
Jerome was predeceased by his Parents, Joseph W. and Augusta Belford. He is survived by his Wife of 55 years, Alicia Belford of Jackson Twp., NJ; his Sons, John Belford of Huntington Beach, CA, and Jerome Belford of Staten Island, NY; his Daughter, Karen Belford of Jackson Twp., NJ; his Brother, Joseph Belford and his Wife, Beverly of East Moriches, NY; his Sister Julienne Sacco of Ocala, FL; and by his 2 Grandchildren, Vanessa Belford and Christopher Belford.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, December 9, 2016, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. A funeral gathering will be offered at 8:30 AM on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30 AM at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson Twp., NJ 08527. A private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made in Jerome’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 14 Commerce Drive, Suite 301, Cranford, NJ 07016 or the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation, 21 Asch Loop, Bronx, NY 10475 and would be greatly appreciated.
